Description/Blazon
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a silver annulet bearing four red bands saltirewise and inscribed "HEALTH" at the top and "LIFE" in base in maroon letters; in center a blue disc bearing a silver cross and the whole encircled by a silver looped rope.

Symbolism
Maroon and white (silver) are the colors traditionally associated with the Medical Corps.  The annulet, looped rope and red saltire form an allusion to a ring buoy exemplifying the unit's support mission and life-saving capabilities.  The blue disc refers to water and the Hospital's location at Vancouver, Washington, a major port city.  The cross is an ancient symbol of service and medical care.

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 313th Combat Support Hospital on 27 February 1981.  It was redesignated for the 313th Surgical Hospital on 29 February 1984. The insignia was redesignated for the 313th Hospital Center 4 February 2021.
